Capital Readiness (Breakout #1)

In this session, we will discuss how to present your vision & purpose, financial position and business plan in order to access investment capital.

About the Presenter:

Maurianna Adams | MetaFund, Chief Community Investment Officer

With a background in public health, public policy, and community and economic development, Maurianna Adams has been involved in the design and implementation of policies, programs, and investments in business and entrepreneurship; education; public health and healthcare; housing; and human rights for over a decade. As a nonprofit executive, she has provided strategic direction, program development, and fundraising expertise to improve the quality of life and opportunity in underserved communities.

In her professional capacity as Chief Community Investment Officer, Adams works to expand MetaFund’s efforts to equitably invest in creative solutions within rural and urban communities. Adams identifies new projects and unmet financing needs in the marketplace, as well as assessing potential projects’ relevance, feasibility, and applicability to MetaFund’s goals and business strategy. Her goal is to leverage her company’s business development programs (e.g., financing) to achieve and expand maximum community benefit. In her previous role, she created a 0% interest microfinance fund for small businesses located in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and a partnership with JPMorgan Chase & Co. Combined these low-barrier efforts benefitted (and continue to impact) over fifty local businesses. Adams also spearheaded the City Oklahoma City’s (“the City”) Economic Recovery and Resiliency Study in consultation with Ernst & Young. As a result of community wide engagement with multi-sector stakeholders, the City created funding and technical assistance programs, such as the OKC Rescue Program, for underserved businesses and communities.

As part of community service and volunteerism, Maurianna has utilized her resources (e.g., social capital; knowledge) to uplift community-based organizations, services, and needs. Take for example, her advisement role in the creation of the OKC Black Justice Fund or serving as co-chair of the Oklahoma City Human Rights Commission Taskforce. In addition, she has crowdfunded for nonprofit and for-profit place-based causes in northeast Oklahoma City such as Nappy Roots Books, National Women Agriculture Association or Northeast Oklahoma City Renaissance.

Maurianna Adams is a proud wife, mother of five (soon to be six), and northeast side resident. She holds a master’s degree in public administration and a National Development Council Economic Development Finance Professional certification. She continues to work in service to resilient communities through public-private investments, research and policy, programming, and cultural best practices.
